CASTAIC, Calif. - The much anticipated return of the Castaic Days Outdoor Festival will take place the weekend of October 9th and 10th at the Castaic Lake Recreational Area.  Offering a festival of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy including live music performances, a Friday evening movie on the lake, fire safety expo, farmer's market and a vintage car show.  Castaic Days will feature food vendors and local businesses as well as an arts and crafts festival.

"Castaic Days is the perfect way for families to kick-off fall activities by enjoying the great outdoors at Castaic Lake," said Renee Sabol, founder and chairperson of Castaic Days.  "We were so proud of the success of last year's event and are very excited to bring an even more dynamic weekend of activities to the SCV this year."

The fun will continue on Saturday with a vintage car show, demonstrations of model float planes, live entertainment on the concert stage, the festival of booths,  and many other activities.

The highlight of the weekend will be the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center's Rubber Ducky Regatta which will be held Saturday afternoon.  "We are so pleased to be able to collaborate with the Sam Dixon Center and the Rubber Ducky Regatta," said Sabol.  "They bring such valuable services to our valley and we feel it is wonderful to combine the events."

The first ever Castaic Days was held this weekend, giving Castaic residents and the rest of the Santa Clarita Valley a chance to relax by Castaic Lake and enjoy the fishing, kayaking, food and live entertainment.

Renee Garneau-Sabol, Castaic Area Town Council member and coordinator of Castaic Days, said the event was designed to showcase Castaic Lake, especially because it recently underwent improvements in the form of new playgrounds and upgraded walkways.

"We wanted to share this with as many people as possible," she said about the lake.

Garneau-Sabol said the three-day festival, which continues today, was built around the annual Friends of Castaic Lake's Fishing Derby, which allows fishing enthusiasts to catch trout that has been stocked in the lake. Castaic Town Council's annual 5K and 1K Run/Walk, will also take place today.

Castaic Days, which is expected to become an annual festival, also highlights Castaic's local businesses and resources, Garneau-Sabol said, as around 40 vendors booths dotted the areas around the lake. Overall, Garneau-Sabol expected between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors to attend Castaic Days.

At the picnic tables, Heidi Voll of Castaic was enjoying an afternoon lunch with her family.

Joined by daughter, Mackenzie, 6, niece Micayla MacDougall, 8, and their grandmother Sue Clemons, Voll said she decided to come out as a way to support her community.

She plans to participate in this morning's 5K as well.

Alongside the lake, Valencia resident Jessica Arthur was helping her 6-year-old son Caleb learn how to fish with a kid-sized fishing pole during the Fishing Derby.

"He's always wanted to go fishing," Arthur said, adding that when her son's school sent home flyers about Castaic Days, she decided to come.

Along with the fishing lesson, Arthur said she had been walking around the festival, visiting the various booths.

"We've made our rounds," she said.
